Download and read online Farmer s Boy in PDF and EPUB Imagine eleven fields grouped around the houses, one hundred and eighty-six gently brae-set acres, sloping away to the south and west. And then imagine woods and fields stretching far and far along the valley into the blue mists of a summer afternoon, until the hills joined hands in one coned summit across the horizon, on the very marches of infinity. In that spare but not unlovely land I of the sixth generation grew up to be a farmer's boy'. John R. Allan was brought up on a farm in Aberdeenshire at the beginning of the century. Through his child's eye we are allowed a view of the little world called Dungair, with its extended family of colourful characters - among them the Old Man, Uncle Sandy, Captain Blades and Cuddy Manson. We are given a vivid, yet unsentimental account of the boy's explorations of his surroundings, his early schooldays, his first visit to the town and his awareness of the outbreak of the Great War. New material continues John Allan's life story.

Download and read online The Farmer Boy Murders in PDF and EPUB What causes a beloved son to go wrong? The product of demanding parents who greatly mistreated him, he thinks they must have loved him at one point. But as the child of a rural community without mental health care, his young soul was on its own as their behavior twisted and shaped his irrevocably. Without guidance or guidelines, he develops a predatory view of other humans and begins to make terrible, deadly decisions in his quest for some sense of dark justice and fairness. On his first excursion from his home community, he makes the first of many extreme remedial actions against humanity. As the Farmer Boy Murders, as they come to be known, continue, one law-enforcement official’s obsession swells to match that of his quarry. As the body count begins to grow, Special Agent Lars Peters grows more and more confounded. A creature of methodical logic, the bungling of the investigation by the local authorities does nothing to calm him. No matter what he does, the Farmer Boy always remains one step—and one brutal murder—ahead of him. Encouraged by a big break, Peters races to the scene of the latest murder. Yet again, the Farmer Boy is gone. The only witnesses prove to be as infuriatingly inscrutable as the murderer. Once the killer realizes that he has engaged the attention of the special agent, he ramps up his game even more. Can Peters outwit the Farmer Boy before he kills again?

Download and read online The Farmer s Boy by Robert Bloomfield in PDF and EPUB Robert Bloomfield’s The Farmer’s Boy was the most successful poem of the “Romantic” period, selling 100,000 copies between 1800 and 1830. However, what was marketed was not the poem which the working-class Bloomfield had written, but a highly polished, politely spelled and punctuated re-write, prepared by the local squire, who deliberately covered up the fact that Bloomfield had written originally for a Suffolk voice, with Suffolk vowel-sounds and Suffolk idioms. This edition prints Bloomfield’s first manuscript, and then has a parallel text of the “polished” first edition, opposite Bloomfield’s second manuscript, made for his own use and for that of his family, in which he changes the poem back to the form in which he wrote, heard, and read it. Thus Bloomfield’s intentions appear for the first time, edited in detail from the original manuscripts at Harvard. Also included are the two eighteenth-century poems The Thresher’s Labour by Stephen Duck, and The Woman’s Labour by Mary Collier.
